Introductory water canyoning in Guadalest and Bolulla

  • Descent of La Mela Canyon (also known as Abdet Canyon)
  • Easy-level canyoning experience with abseils, downclimbing and the possibility of jumps and natural slides (depending on season and water flow)
  • Route through a water-carved gorge, with two main sections: a narrower canyon-like stretch and a more open section
  • Great for learning basic canyoning techniques, as there are many walls suitable for practising downclimbs and abseils
  • Depending on the time of year, the canyon can be done dry or wet (when water levels are right, you may find pools for exciting jumps and slides)
  • Return: back to the village of Abdet via a slightly steep trail that turns into a paved path; quick walk back to the vehicles
  • Approx. duration: 3 hours

  • Important: This canyon depends on the year's rainfall. It may sometimes be dry or have low water levels, making the activity impossible. We recommend always checking before booking to confirm current conditions.

Enjoy the exciting sport of aquatic canyoning during a day in the province of Alicante.

One of the two canyons will be chosen depending on the water level in the river at that time.

- The Barranco de l'Estret de la Penya, located in the town of Abdet (Alicante), next to Guadalest in the Marina Baja region. This canyon is very easy, first you climb up and then descend with jumps and small rappels; the last 17m rappel at the waterfall is optional as you can descend by the side.

- The Barranco del río Mela, located in the town of Bolulla (Alicante), 20km from Guadalest, also part of Marina Baja. It is also a very easy canyon, first you walk up a path, then you descend with jumps, sliding down some slides and descending small rappels.

Rappelling is a rope descent system used on vertical surfaces. It is used in places where descent by other means is difficult or unsafe.

Rappelling is the most widely used autonomous descent system, as it only requires, in addition to knowing the appropriate technique, carrying a minimum amount of equipment and a rope.

Rappelling is used in hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, caving, canyoning, and other activities that involve vertical descents.
